Transition Rules - Impact on Mike Smith's Bonuses

Mike Smith's contract with the Oilers included $500K of potential performance bonuses.  The bonuses were set to be earned as follows:

-$50K for playing 30+ minutes in each of 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 Games

-$125K if the Oilers win the first round of the playoffs and Mike Smith has 2 Games Played

-$125K if the Oilers win the second round of the playoffs and Mike Smith has 2 Games Played

Mike Smith Contract

With the transition rules, these regular season bonuses and the games played thresholds have all been pro-rated by 56/82. This means, Mike Smith can now earn up to $420,732 in performance bonuses, as follows:

-$34K for playing 30+ minutes in each of 14, 17, 20, 24, and 27 Games

-$125K if the Oilers win the first round of the playoffs and Mike Smith has 2 Games Played

-$125K if the Oilers win the second round of the playoffs and Mike Smith has 2 Games Played
