Barton will be an unrestricted free agent after not being qualified by Detroit on Friday, Max Bultman of The Athletic reports.

Barton (undisclosed) was activated from injured reserve and assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Tuesday.

Barton penned a two-year, entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. The deal will begin with the 2021-22 campaign.
